Vietnam software outsourcing ranks high

Vietnam ranks top 10 most attractive software outsourcing countries among Asia-Pacific region, latest official report showed.
Of which, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi rank top 20 and 30 most attractive software outsourcing cities in the region. The information was released at the announcement conference titled “Vietnam’s 2014 White Book on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)” held by the Ministry of Information and Communications on October 27, 2014.
According to the report, total ICT revenue recorded $39.53 billion in 2013, an increase of 55 per cent in comparison with 2012. With such the growth in ICT industry in 2013, export turnvover in the hardware sector notably contributed to the growth. This was the third consecutive year Vietnam’s IT industry gained trade deficit.with contribution of export turnover from mobile phones up to 60 per cent of total turnover. Statistics showed that export turnover in the hardware sector increased from $3.37 billion in 2009 to $34.76 billion in 2013, was ten folds in five recent years. Revenue from software sector was $1.36 billion in 2013, increasing by 13 per cent compared to the previous year and revenue from digital content sector was $1.4 billion, increasing by 14 per cent compared to 2012.
According to the ranking of the report on Measuring of Information Society by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) about ICT Development Index, Vietnam reduced two places from 86/155 in 2012 to 88/157 in 2013, ranked the fourth in the Southeast Asia and ranked 14/28 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam was highly rated by ITU in terms of IT applications whose ranking was 83/155.
According to the ranking released in the Global IT Report by the World Economic Forum, the Networked Readiness Index (NRI) of Vietnam ranking remained similar to 2012 with 84/148. In this evaluation, the readiness subindex of the Vietnamese government was ranked 58/148. In 2013, Vietnam always stood within the top 10 countries in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of ICT industry.
